Booking & price
What is the I amsterdam City Card? +
The I amsterdam City Card is Amsterdam's official city pass: one free entry to more than 70 museums and attractions, a canal cruise and free travel on public transport (GVB). Available from 24 to 120 hours.
How do I get the card after booking? +
You receive a voucher by email. With it you use the digital City Card in the City Card app, or exchange it in Amsterdam for the physical card. Only the activated card gives you entry and travel.
How much does the I amsterdam City Card cost? +
There are options from 24 to 120 hours. Longer durations cost less per day. You can see today's price for every option in the price calculator on the Prices page.
Is there a reduced child price? +
The card is sold as a single card without a separate child rate. Only the duration you choose sets the price. You can see today's price in the booking window.
Validity & use
When does the validity start? +
The clock only starts with the first use of the card, not at purchase. From then on it runs consecutively (24, 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours) and is not tied to calendar days.
Can I activate the card later? +
Yes. Validity only begins with the first use, meaning your first entry or your first journey. You decide when it starts and do not have to activate the card on the day of purchase.
Is the card digital or physical? +
Both. You use the digital City Card in the City Card app, or exchange the voucher in Amsterdam for the physical card. More on the Public transport page.
Public transport
Which public transport is included? +
All GVB lines: tram, bus, metro and IJ ferries, as often as you like within the validity. Details on the Public transport page.
Is the card valid from Schiphol Airport? +
No. The card is not valid on NS trains and regional buses, so it does not cover the journey from Schiphol Airport to the centre. From the airport, take the NS train or express bus 397.
Do I have to check in and out on public transport? +
Yes. Hold the card or the QR code against the check-in scanner when you board, and again when you leave to check out. That way the GVB system registers your journey correctly.
Benefits & attractions
Which attractions are included? +
More than 70 museums and attractions, including the Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum, Museum het Rembrandthuis, Artis and NEMO Science Museum, plus a canal cruise. The full list is on the Attractions page.
Is the Van Gogh Museum included? +
No. The Van Gogh Museum is not included in the I amsterdam City Card. You book a ticket for it separately.
Can I visit attractions more than once? +
No. Each attraction can be visited once for free. Further visits to the same attraction are charged.
Is a canal cruise included? +
Yes, a canal cruise through the UNESCO-listed canals is included. Free 24-hour bike rental comes on top.
Cancellation & other questions
Can I cancel the card? +
Whether and until when you can cancel depends on your booking. The applicable terms are shown at checkout and on your voucher.
How long is the voucher valid? +
The voucher has its own redemption deadline, which you see when you book. Independently of that, the card's hours only start counting with the first use.
